Common problems we handle

Frequently asked questions

Do you charge for an estimate?
Estimates are free for a new system — our technician looks at your property, talks through the best camera placement, and gives you the exact price before any work.
How much does a camera system cost?
It depends on how many cameras, the type, and the cabling, so the technician assesses your property and gives you the exact price up front — and the assessment is free.
How soon can you come?
We can usually get a technician out pretty quickly, and if it's urgent we'll do our best to prioritize you.
Do you install whole systems?
Yes, we design and install complete camera systems for homes and businesses, and set up viewing on your phone. We'll come out and give you a free quote.
One of my cameras is black / not working
We can help with that — the technician will check the camera, its cable, and the recorder and get your coverage back, and go over the price first.
My system isn't recording
Let's get that looked at — the technician will check the recorder and storage and make sure it's capturing footage properly going forward.
I can't see my cameras on my phone
We set up remote viewing on your phone and can fix it if it stopped working — the technician will get your cameras back on your app.
Do you do wireless / Wi-Fi cameras?
Yes, we do wireless and Wi-Fi cameras as well as wired — the technician will recommend what works best for your property and signal.
Do you install doorbell cameras?
We install doorbell cameras and can tie them into your system — the technician will get it set up and on your phone.
Do you work with my brand / system?
We work with all the major brands and systems — tell the technician what you have or want, and they'll take care of it.
Can you add cameras or upgrade my system?
Absolutely — we add cameras and upgrade older systems to sharper, more reliable ones. We'll assess what you have and quote it free.
Do you monitor the cameras / call the police?
Just so you know, we install and service the cameras but don't monitor them ourselves — for an emergency you'd call 911. We can point you toward monitoring options if you'd like.
I think my cameras were hacked
I understand that worry — we secure systems properly, change default passwords, and keep them updated. We can get a technician out to check and lock yours down.
Do you do commercial / business systems?
Yes, we do commercial camera systems as well as homes — tell me about the property and we'll get you scheduled.
Do you service my area?
We're local and cover your area — I'll grab your address and get a technician out to take a look.

Know the terms

DVR vs. NVR
The recorder — a DVR works with older analog cameras over coax; an NVR works with newer IP cameras over network cable.

A digital network camera that sends high-resolution video over Ethernet, often powered by the same cable.
PoE (Power over Ethernet)
One network cable that carries both power and video to a camera, for cleaner installs.
PTZ camera
A pan-tilt-zoom camera you can steer and zoom to cover a large area.
Remote viewing
Watching your cameras live or reviewing footage from a phone or computer app.
Field of view / coverage
How much area a camera sees; placement and lens decide what you actually capture.
