Frequently asked questions
Do you charge for an estimate?
Estimates are completely free — the technician comes out, looks at your ceilings, measures the space, and gives you the exact price before any work is done.
How much does it cost to remove popcorn ceilings?
It depends on the square footage, the ceiling height, and how it was finished, so the technician measures on site and gives you the exact price up front — and the estimate is free.
Is it safe — could there be asbestos?
Great question — ceilings from before the mid-1980s can contain asbestos, so please don't scrape it yourself. We can arrange a quick test first, and if needed it's handled the safe, proper way.
How long does it take?
It depends on the size and condition, but many single rooms are done in a day or two — the technician will give you a clear timeline with your exact price.
Will it be really messy / dusty?
We cover and protect your floors and furniture and contain the dust as much as possible, and we clean up when we're done — we take that part seriously.
Do you make it fully smooth or retexture it?
Either way — we can make it fully smooth or give it a lighter modern texture; the technician will go over the options with you and quote both.
Do you repaint the ceiling after?
Yes, we prime and repaint the ceiling as part of the finish so you're left with a clean, done result — the technician will confirm exactly what's included.
My ceiling has a water stain or crack — can you still do it?
We can — the technician will take a look, and if there's any leak or repair needed first he'll go over that so the finished ceiling stays clean.
The ceiling was already painted over — is that a problem?
That does change the approach a bit, but we handle painted-over ceilings all the time — the technician will look and give you the best option and the exact price.
Do you do whole houses or just one room?
Both — anything from a single room to a whole house. Just let me know roughly how many rooms and we'll get the technician out to measure.
Do you work on commercial buildings?
Yes, we do residential and commercial ceilings — homes, offices, rentals, and more.
What's your warranty on the work?
We stand behind our work — the technician will go over the exact guarantee when he's out to see the ceilings.
Do you offer financing or payment plans?
That's a good question — let me have the office confirm the current payment options and we'll go over them with you.
Do you service my area?
We're local and cover your area — I'll grab your details and get a technician set up to come measure.
⚠️ Safety first
- Home built before ~1985 / unknown-age popcorn ceiling (possible asbestos): Because ceilings from that era can contain asbestos, please don't scrape, sand, or disturb it yourself — that's what can release the fibers. Just leave it be, and we'll arrange a quick test first so it's handled safely.
- Active water leak or a sagging, bulging wet ceiling: If the ceiling is sagging or bulging with water, please stay out from under it and set a bucket down — a wet ceiling can come down. If water's actively coming in, shut off the water to that area, and we'll get someone out; that's a real hazard.
- Peeling paint chips in a pre-1978 home (possible lead): In older homes the paint can contain lead, so please don't sand or scrape it yourself and keep kids away from any chips — our team handles those safely with the right precautions.
Know the terms
- Popcorn / acoustic ceiling
- The sprayed-on bumpy 'cottage cheese' ceiling texture common in older homes.
- Skim coat
- A thin layer of joint compound spread over the ceiling to make it smooth after scraping.
- Wet scrape
- Misting the texture with water so it softens and scrapes off cleanly with less dust.
- Asbestos test
- A small sample sent to a lab to check whether older texture contains asbestos before it's disturbed.
- Level 5 finish
- A fully smooth, high-quality finished surface with no visible texture or seams.
